Puerta del Sol (1.9 km) – One of the busiest and most well known places in Madrid. The square contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year.

Parque de El Buen Retiro (1.1 km) - Literally meaning Park of the Pleasant Retreat, this large and popular park is 1.4 km² (350 acres) of beautiful, tranquil parkland in the centre of Madrid. Within the park is the Estanque del Retiro, a large artificial lake. Next to the lake is the Mausoleum of Alfonso XII, featuring a semicircular colonnade and a statue of Alfonso on horseback on a tall pedestal.
